7 reasons TEDxVienna is a stage for brilliant ideas
5. November 2014 Marketing Natives

1. Ideas worth sharing

For the past five years, Vienna has witnessed some of the most fascinating, thought-provoking and intrinsically rewarding ideas presented on the TEDxVienna stage: from selling your life on Ebay, shifting the world’s view on philanthropy and poverty, making plastic out of banana peels, visualizing what one day on Earth looks like, to finding our roots imprinted in star stuff, seeing the world’s smallest 3D printer and even questioning the very core  reasons why we ask questions. Each year, local and international speakers and attendees meet up to explore a huge range of variations on the conference’s yearly theme. In 2009 TEDxVienna was „Bridging The Gap“ and in 2010 it was examining „The Domino Effect“. „Instanity“ was on everybody’s minds and lips in 2012, while in 2013 everybody was dreaming of the „Unlimited“. This year TEDxVienna discovered “CITYx” and now it’s aiming at finding a „Brave New Space„.

2. Remarkable Speakers

The variety of ideas and projects presented every autumn is brought to the public by an exhilarating roster of do-ers, today’s front runners in their fields, the TEDxVienna speakers. Auma Obama, activist, humanitarian and the American President’s sister, Michael “Vsauce” Steven, the YouTube phenomenon, Federico Pistono, author of the book „Robots Will Steal Your Job, But That’s OK“, Carl Djerassi, the inventor of the birth-control pill or Niko Alm, the internationally acclaimed „Pastafarian“, are just some of the echoing names whose ideas, dreams and plans have been harnessed at the TEDxVienna conference.

3. A first class experience and (4) an exceptional audience

So what happens with their ideas? During a whole day, speakers share their ideas in 7 up to 18 minutes talks. In the breaks, the public gets the opportunity to interact with the speakers, with the exhibitors and of course, with each other. In its first year of existence, TEDxVienna brought together 150 participants. Five years later, more than 900 people join forces in creating new synergies and connections across many disciplines. Learning, networking, and having fun are the key activities during a TEDxVienna event.

5. Magnificent venues

A day of such magnitude needs to be celebrated properly. The TEDxVienna conferences happen in Vienna’s most incredible venues that fit the event both physically and conceptually: Studio 44, the Odeon Theater, Weltmuseum Wien and the Volkstheater Wien. You don’t believe me? Have a look.

 6. Interactive sessions

Throughout the one day of brain spa, attendees also get to broaden their sensorial knowledge by interacting with the coolest exhibitions. 3D printers, autonomous humanoid robots that answer your questions and BCI machines that allow you to play games only with your thoughts are just some of the experiences the TEDxVienna crowd tried out at past conferences.

7. The faces of TEDxVienna

TEDxVienna is a local conference with an international flavor individually organized under a TED license. A team of passionate volunteers from several countries and professions bring the event to life. They strive to create a blasting experience for you on the day of the event, but also beyond. Together with a brilliant community, TEDxVienna is constantly spreading ideas through the blog and on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The next TEDxVienna conference will happen on November 1st in the Volkstheater Wien. TEDxVienna invites you to question the established patterns and cycles that are ingrained in every one of us. The goal is to discover new paths and unexpected frontiers. We will set aside the answers we think we know and ask the questions we are afraid to ask. Humanity is at a crossroads, a perilous but hopeful time. Looking forward to greeting you at TEDxVienna Brave New Space.
